예일대를 2004년 졸업한 재원 미셸은 어렸을 때부터 클래식 피아노를 배우기 시작, 자연스럽게 팝음악에 관심을 가지게 되었고, Antonio Carlos Jobim의 “Girl From Ipanema”를 우연히 듣게 된 후 그녀에게 가장 영감을 주는 뮤지션으로 자리잡게 된다. 대학 재학 중에 이미 Warner Brothers records, Ministry of Sound, Five Six Recordings 등의 메이져 레이블을 통해 자신의 음악을 세상에 알린 그녀는 Speakerbox와 함께 한 “Time”이란 곡으로 빌보드 댄스차트 5위를 기록, King Britt이 믹스한 “If I Lost You”는 BBC Radio의 Norman Jay가 진행하는 GIANT45 에서 압도적인 투표율에 힘입어 ‘올해의 노래’로 선정되었으며, VH1의 프로모션 테마송으로 사용되면서 지금까지도 온에어되고 있는 롱런히트송이 되었다.
